STORM LASHES KZN SOUTH COAST June 20, 2008

Well it was full moon again on 19 June 2008 and the KZN South Coast felt the effects when a huge storm lashed the area causing a lot of damage and killing at least 12 people.

The Durban Weather Bureau said the heavy downpour had broken four rainfall records, one of them dating back to 1964.

1000’s of people have been displaced and have been accommodated in local community halls for the time being.

The damage to roads, bridges and other infrastructure amounts to billions of Rands and it will take a long time to repair/fix.

This part of South Africa has been hit quite a few times over the last 2 years and the sea has been claiming back large stretches of beach from Ballito Bay down to Port Shepstone. For more info on this storm go to:

MORE ON AFRICAN MINDSET June 18, 2008

A few more things happened in South Africa recently which may be used as examples of the African mindset:

The ANC Youth League president Julius Malema said that the organisation would kill “counter-revolutionaries”, including those in the ruling party, who undermine party president Jacob Zuma. His call to “kill for Zuma” at a Youth Day rally in Thaba Nchu on Monday has created a publicity nightmare for the ANC.

To make a public statement like that straight after we have seen the awful xenophobic attacks in this country is absolutely irresponsible! Read the full story at:

http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?newslett=1&em=177163a1a20080618ah&click_id=13&art_id=vn20080618060300492C988640&set_id=1

The second example is the vitamins issued to HIV/AIDS sufferers to help them build up their immune systems by a German company. They were told to take the tablets as well as the antiretrovirals they were already taking. Of course they did not do so and actually stopped taking the antiretrovirals all together. You cannot treat the African the same as you would in the more developed countries. You cannot assume that they understand the instructions given to them or that they would read and understand the directions on the vitamin bottle!

Read my previous post on HIV/AIDS why medicate?

The third example is the continued stealing by postal workers of articles sent to people in SA, it has now got so bad that Amazon Books have black listed The SA Post Office and will no longer be sending books via them. Read about it at:

http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?set_id=1&click_id=79&art_id=nw20080618071522725C408859&newslett=1&em=177163a1a20080618ah

And finally, Chinese South Africans are now classified as “black” so that they may qualify for Black Empowerment benefits. How anyone can say that Chinese are black is just so funny.

Just as funny as South Africa being called the “rainbow nation” but if you have a close look at the colours in a rainbow you will not find the colour “black” in it.

SARDINE FEVER HITS SA EAST COAST June 11, 2008

The sardine run has started in Ramsgate off the East coast of South Africa. This annual event is awe inspiring and the sight and experience cannot be described sufficiently in words, it is an experience you have to go through yourself to understand the thrill of it all.

Everyone who has seen and experienced the thrill of seeing the huge shoal of millions of little fish, swimming for their lives battling against all odds to reach their destination, will tell you to make a point of one day seeing it for yourself.

Huge schools of dolphins, sharks and other game fish surround and attack the sardines from below. Thousands of birds bombard them from the sky. If they venture to close to the shore people net them or scoop them up in buckets to use for bait to catch bigger fish or to eat them.

It is a frenzy of activity and lasts only a short while, but it is spectacular. To learn more about this event go to:

WILL TREVOR MANUEL CUT FUEL TAX? June 9, 2008

Posted by frostygirl in News.
1 comment so far

Did you know that about one-third of the pump inland unleaded petrol price, which stands at R9.96 a litre, consists of taxes and levies.

Well a promising bit of news came today when minerals and energy minister Buyelwa Sonjica said that she would make a proposal to finance minister Trevor Manuel to cut fuel tax. “I am going to engage the minister of finance with a view to exploring possible steps with regard to the tax regime following these unacceptably high oil prices,” Sonjica said.

Apparently President Nicolas Sarkozy of France has proposed that value-added tax on fuel be suspended when oil prices are high.

There are two other important measures which were also announced and they are:

A new coal-to-liquids plant to be build by PetroSA

Resuscitation of a deal under which a 1 000 megawatt power plant will be built by an independent power producer.

It is encouraging to note that some positive steps are being taken to help the South African economy and people.

Now we can just hope that Mr Trevor Manuel will be brave enough to agree to the proposal, even if it is just until the oil prices come down to an acceptable level and stabilise.

SOUTH AFRICAN MUNICIPAL MESS June 6, 2008

Our Finance Minister Trevor Manuel has promised a shake up of local government structures ahead of next years general election.

Obviously it would have been better if he had done this a few years ago already then we would not have been in this mess where incompetent people are running the municipalities into the ground and where “service delivery” is nonexistent.

It is quite surprising to hear such truthful remarks coming from him considering that he is criticising leadership openly and this could make him unpopular with the leadership of the country.

An article written by Quentin Wray in the Business report today states the following: “In a scathing attack, Manuel blamed weak politicians for poor service delivery. “The reality is that insecure leaders afford opportunities to incompetent people who will never threaten their office.”

Too little too late Mr Manuel! Not enough time to “fix” this before the next general election.

SOUTH AFRICA LAND GRAB STARTING? June 2, 2008

Posted by frostygirl in News.

Apparently the government is trying to pass a new land bill through parliment which will give one person (obviously an ANC Minister) too much power when it comes to negotiations with present landowners to purchase their land in order to hand it over to a new black owner. The wording in this document is very open and can allow the ANC to buy the land at below the market value of the property and it includes moveables as well.

Thanks goodness Helen Zille from the DA political party has spotted it and I hope she will gather enough support to stop it.

She asked whether this was the first step to South Africa becoming like Zimbabwe where land is arbitrarily taken from white farmers and handed over to black farmers who have no or little skills to work the farm productively?

This document is unconstitutional as it goes against the constitutional rights of the land owners. We will have to keep our eyes on this one to see what transpires

AFRICAN MINDSET CONTINUED May 30, 2008

Somali refugees are apparently selling food aid they have received from Good Samaritans, while at the same time refusing to allow their women and children to eat or receive medical assistance.

Refugees from Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo told the Pretoria News that when they went to fetch their remaining belongings from the old camp where the Somalis were still camped out, they were offered rice for R20 a plate and apples for R5 each.

While Somali leaders prevented their women and children from receiving food and medicine throughout Thursday, several of the leaders were spotted eating food from Chicken Licken bags.

AFRICAN MINDSET May 29, 2008

Somalian people who have been victims of xenophobic attacks in South Africa have now given me another great opportunity to show non-Africans how strange the African mindset can be.

Somalians in a refugee facility in South Africa have refused aid from the South African government and will only accept aid from United Nations. When South African aid workers arrived at their facility with clothes, food, medicine, etc they were turned away and sent back from where they came from with the goods they brought with them.

Now imagine, you are in dire straights and your children are suffering, people go through a lot of effort to obtain aid for you, even delivers it to your doorstep for free and what do you do? You chase them away! Beyond understanding!

To make matters worse, there are other nationalities in the same facility crying out for food, blankets, clothing, medicine, etc and the Somalians put up blockades to stop help arriving for them without their permission so everyone in that facility receives no aid unless it comes from the UN. Makes no sense!

I have lived in Africa all my life and I can now say I don’t understand this at all.

FUEL PRICES GOING UP AGAIN! May 27, 2008

Posted by frostygirl in News.

Our petrol price will be going up again in June and there seems to be no relief for us in the short term! I just wonder when it is going to hit a level where there will be total resistance to the price and cause the general public to boycott petrol stations.

I notice that some sections of users in the UK have had a protest march today urging their government to halt the price increases.

It is sad to see that the countries who do have oil fields are holding the world to ransom!

It is imperative that our government urgently starts implementing strategies to harness our natural resources to make alternative fuels.

On Carte Blanche I saw that people are using human and animal waste to produce fuel and I think I can safely say that we have enough of that in our country to turn into fuel instead of allowing it to pollute our rivers and dams.

XENOPHOBIA BLAMED ON APARTHEID May 23, 2008

Posted by frostygirl in News.

Apartheid has taken the blame for many problems in South Africa, but I think this one is really a stretch.

Why would the black people commit black on black violence in South Africa to help right-wing whites to take over the country? They are targeting “foreigners,” black people from other African countries, why would the right wing whites be behind this? What benefit would come from it to the whites in the country? In fact the whites could be caught in the middle of this and suffer as a result of the instability it causes.

If this violence was, say, between Zulu and Tswana or Xhoza and Sotho then I might have taken a different view of the situation. The violence is against “foreign” blacks, Chinese and Indians, not white South Africans.

Read the news report here:

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/rtrs/20080523/tts-uk-safrica-violence-92f7720.html

Now if we want to talk about what the blacks are planning against the whites then we do not have to look to far. For many years now we have heard of the planned “Uhuru” attack against white Africans when Nelson Mandela dies, it is also called “The night of the long knives”.

I am not going to rehash the whole story here again, if you are interested to learn more about it there are many references to it on the web, to start you off go to:
